- Chapter 4 "Structured Cabling and Networking Elements" includes new topics on Network Attached Storage gateways and Storage Area Networks, allowing high-speed easier access to data. It also includes material from the 6th Edition's chapter 6 "Network Hardware, Switching, and Routing".
- Chapter 5 "Network Cabling" corresponds to the former chapter 3.
- Chapter 6 corresponds to the former chapter 8.
- Chapter 7 includes new topics on Temporal Key Integrity Protocol, Advanced Encryption Standard (which provides faster encryption and a higher level of security than TKIP) and Single Sign-On (SSO) system. It also covers topics previously covered in chapters 10 and 11.
