Key differences between 7th and 6th editions

• The content in Seventh Edition of Dean's Network+ Guide to Networks is covered in twelve chapters and maps to Network+ N10-006 exam.
• New "Applying Concepts" activities.
• The content has been significantly reorganized.
• Chapters 2 "How Computers Find Each Other on Networks" and 3 "How Data Is Transported Over Networks" include material from the 6th Edition's chapters 4 and 6.
• Chapter 4 "Structured Cabling and Networking Elements" includes new topics on Network Attached Storage gateways and Storage Area Networks, allowing high-speed easier access to data. It also includes material from the 6th Edition's chapter 6 "Network Hardware, Switching, and Routing".
• Chapter 5 "Network Cabling" corresponds to the former chapter 3.
• Chapter 6 corresponds to the former chapter 8.
• Chapter 7 includes new topics on Temporal Key Integrity Protocol, Advanced Encryption Standard (which provides faster encryption and a higher level of security than TKIP) and Single Sign-On (SSO) system. It also covers topics previously covered in chapters 10 and 11.
• Chapter 8 corresponds to the former chapter 11. Includes new discussion on Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) technology, which combines SIM and SEM functions into one security management system.
• Chapter 9 "Unified Communications and Network Performance Management" covers topics previously covered in chapters 12, 14, and 15.
• Chapter 10 "Network Segmentation and Virtualization" includes new topic on supernetting, the process of forming a supernet IP. It also covers topics previously covered in chapters 6, 9, and 10.
• Chapter 11 corresponds to the former chapter 7.
• Chapter 12 "Industrial and Enterprise Networking" presents new material on Industrial Control Systems and the largest subgroup of ICS -- SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition). Also the chapter contains material from former chapter 14.
